Full Circle Wellness, the holistic approach to Kinesiology, Nutrition & Fitness
Remember that thing that we used to do as kids? It’s making a very cool come-back. Hula Hooping promotes cardio endurance, core strength and flexibility (and it’s a little harder than you might remember!). We chatted to Shouniez & Shaheen Van Der Schyff, who initiated a “Hoop-a-thon” to raise funds for the SPCA in Wellington. See their article on the experience below.
Making circles of Joy for our Furry Friends
Psycho Stompers is a trance party on the local Cape Town scene whereby all the proceeds of their party goes to the Wellington SPCA, an animal shelter that is in need of funding. We found this to be an Awesome and heart warming initiative and on 23 Oct 2011 (7 months ago), we went to our 1st Psycho Stomper Party. We asked friends, family, colleagues and anyone willing to donate to this worthy cause. At this party, we were able to meet two passionate people with big hearts, Hendri and Tarren-Mae, the lovely people responsible for the event.
Last month, Psycho Stompers hosted another party and once again, all proceeds were going to be given to the Wellington SPCA! Going into this with a fresh mindset after returning from our first Afrikaburn and being blown away by the love and generosity, we thought: “What more can we do to contribute to this worthy cause and make a difference?”
Social media, being a powerful tool/ voice, we used it to our advantage and pledged online to Hoop for 3 hours if we managed to raise at least R1000 for the for this cause. Wayne Barham from Arise and Hoop saw our pledge agreed to join us if the target was reached. The next thing, the entire Arise and Hoop crew jumped on board and suddenly it was on!!! From there on, a rapid domino effect started to happen and the response was phenomenal! Friends and family opened their hearts and with the help of their generous donations, the R1000 target was reached within 1 ½ weeks! The generosity did not stop there! By the weekend of the party, we managed to raise a total of R3400 for the Wellington SPCA.
The idea behind hooping was to make it light-hearted and fun! Hooping is such an awesome way to play and flow in the sun like little kids. To add to the fun and crazyness, we hooped in animal costumes:) (see some cool pics above).
Shaheen Van Der Schyff is a qualified personal trainer at Body Science Personal Training Studio, and he happily recommends adding hooping to your fitness programme as a fun way to stay in shape.
For classes, fun gatherings or workshops on learning how to hoop, you can contact Arise and Hoop through their Facebook page here.
