Summer Bodies are made in Winter

Tasha from Fake It Beauty Salon has written some tips on getting our body “Summer Ready” – chances are you’ve hidden your skin under layers of woolly clothes – it’s soon going to be time to de-robe, so get a head start with these tips!

Yes I know the sweet cravings, warm sugary drinks, comfort food, cold and dark mornings and no motivation to exercise is a big challenge in the colder months. But by the time summer comes we all have a nervous breakdown when those white bodies need to be exposed and the bikinis come out again, by then it is too late. We tend to go into a flat spin and starve ourselves and go onto the yo-yo diets and detox programs for a quick fix…Healthy?… I THINK NOT! Fake it beauty_cropped

Here are some tips you can do at home to help you on your way:

1. Dry body brushing – Yes… exactly what it says, get yourself a body brush (with hard cactus bristles). Before getting into the shower, brush your body vigorously in the direction towards your heart. This will increase circulation, which brings nutrients and oxygen to the area, therefore helping with the appearance of cellulite and helping to break down fat.

2. Moisturise – Keep your skin moisturized, the skin is the largest organ of the body it is there for protection, regulation and sensation. “Beauty is only skin deep”. We have one skin so look after it. Just like our bodies need to be hydrated, only 1% of the water you drink goes to your skin. So you need to apply moisturizer topically so it can hydrate from the outside in. Your fibroblasts are the cells that produce collagen and Elastin, which keeps your skin looking young and plump. If you do not feed these cells by the time they reach the surface, they will look dull and wrinkled. Use ingredients like Hyaluronic acid that is naturally found in your skin to help keep you young and plump.

3. Natural remedies – Make up a blend of essential oils… add it to olive oil, grape seed oil or aqueous cream as a base. Remember that essential oils are very strong so never put pure essential oils directly onto the skin, always mix it into a base oil or cream. Essential oils that help with cellulite and circulation are: Thyme, grapefruit, fennel, and eucalyptus. You can even put a few drops into your bath.

4. Sun Screen – Use it everyday…Yes, even if it’s rainy and cold outside. UVA is the rays that causes aging. You will not see it or feel it but it is everywhere. It penetrates through glass so while you are driving your car with the windows closed the UVA rays will find you and age you. Sun damage only shows up 10 years later. So if you had a bad sunburn 10 years ago then age spots will start showing up now. Have you ever woken up one morning and looked at your self in the mirror and noticed that pigmentation has appeared over night? It has taken years of abuse of baby oil, tanning oils, sun beds and whatever other ingredient you find to lather yourself in to make you brown. Brown Fat looks better than white fat… Use a tanning cream which doesn’t need to be activated by the sun, or have a spray tan done.

massage-back5. Body/Beauty Treatments that work – Body wraps and massages. Massages help to breakdown a build up of lactic acid in your muscles and help to drain it away in the lymphatic system. (This is the System in our bodies that get rid of toxins.) So when doing a detox diet you are flushing out your lymphatic system therefore getting rid of excess water retention or toxins that make you feel bloated and heavy. Massages help with the circulation of stagnated lymph (fluid) or blood therefore getting new oxygen and nutrients to flow freely around the body and help breakdown fatty tissue and cellulite. Body wraps… doing one can help get rid of excess fluid, doing a course helps to breakdown fat, helps tone the skin and improves the texture and colour of the skin. For those of your who haven’t had a body wrap… it is exactly what it says it is. You are exfoliated and massaged with products that penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. The products have ingredients that help to tone, firm, circulate and drain the tissues in the body. You are then wrapped up in a plastic sheet and warm blanket to lock in the moisture and warm the skin for better product penetration. You are then massaged from head to toe for even more relaxation and circulation. I would suggest a course of 10 body wraps to see amazing results.
